Foundation: Korean Alphabet (Hangeul)

Work through the four lessons below at your own pace. Each video covers one building block of Hangeul — complete them in order for the best results.

Part 1

Single Vowels (모음)

Korean vowels, known as 모음 (moeum), form the backbone of every syllable. In this lesson you'll learn all 10 single vowels — how they look, how they sound, and how to write them correctly.

Part 2

Combination Vowels

Combination vowels are formed by joining two single vowels together. There are 11 in total. This lesson walks you through each one with clear pronunciation guides and writing practice.

Part 3

Consonants (자음)

Korean consonants, known as 자음 (jaeum), include 14 basic consonants and 5 double consonants. Here you'll master the basic 14 — their shapes, sounds, and how they interact with vowels to form syllables.

Part 4

Double Consonants

Double consonants are formed by pairing the same consonant twice, producing a tenser, sharper sound. This final lesson covers all 5 double consonants and how to use them in real Korean words.
